Before today’s game I wouldn’t have said this team isn’t better than last year’s team. Now I am not so sure.

I have said to a few people during the week I think the Huskers will beat Indiana, but they shouldn’t take Indiana lightly. They are better than people believe. They were rated 16th and 18th. However, I didn’t envision this kind of butt kicking. I wasn’t able to watch the game, but the score tells me about all I need to know.

The Huskers have five games left and not one of them are close to an automatic win. The Huskers won’t beat Ohio State in Columbus. I don’t think, or hope, it will happen, but UCLA, USC, Wisconsin, and Iowa could feasibly win. Ohio State, USC, and Iowa are on the road. If that somehow should happen the Husker won’t be bowl eligible. I would like to think they will win at least one.

After today it is pretty certain the Huskers won’t be rated this season.

Given their schedule, the Huskers haven’t played a complete game yet, unless you count today’s complete train-wreck.

The Husker offense hasn’t been bad (before today) but it hasn’t been really good, either. No running game and the passing just seemed off today.

Today’s defensive collapse was especially disheartening. Indiana is good, but I wouldn’t have given them much of a chance of hanging a half-hundred on the Huskers as easily as they did today.

The turnover monster is back, and special teams are only special to the Church Lady.

Lee Corso must be happy, though, this sort of makes up for the thumping he got from the Huskers in Bloomington in 1978.

UCLA beat Rutgers today, that game may be Nebraska’s best shot at getting to 6 wins. Wisconsin looked solid against Northwestern today and Iowa has an offense this year.

I’m trying to determine if today was Indiana having an unusually good day and us having an unusually poor day. Or, is Indiana THAT good or are we THAT bad?

The uber confidence we showed against Colorado was not there. Indiana was disciplined to the max and clicking. It was a truly sad outing and I’m not sure where the team goes from here.

Scott, I couldn’t agree with you more. The opening KO gave IN more to capitalize on than they were even suspecting I believe.
With OSU the next on the schedule, the players & coaches all have a huge mountain to climb.
The 6th win ‘jinks’ seems to be a reality.

Indiana is pretty good, Nebraska is pretty middle-of-the-pack.

Indiana’s QB is out indefinitely with a thumb injury, though, it’ll be interesting to see how that affects their upcoming games.

USC lost to Maryland and Iowa lost to MSU yesterday, both looking pretty average in the process, while UCLA beat Rutgers, so maybe there are 3 winnable games left on the schedule, but the Huskers looked inept yesterday in every phase of the game and there’s a lot of stuff they need to fix just to get to 6 wins.

In my opinion, other than Ohio State the rest of the games are winnable. The thing is they are also losable. Five games left and three of them are on the road. That being Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Ohio State will be tough anyway and Iowa and Wisconsin are always tough at home. I believe somewhere along the line the Huskers should win one game to become bowl eligible. The odds of the Husker having a top 25 finish just got very tough.

Actually, Wisconsin is in Lincoln. USC is a road game.

Wisconsin is a home game. USC is on the road.

Yeah, you are correct. When I posted I wasn’t looking at the schedule. I was just operating on memory, which sometimes doesn’t work out, and forget all about USC.

I don’t know how much difference that will make. That still equals two at home and three on the road. I don’t imagine USC will be any pushover in the road although they are 3-4. I am not sure what kind of schedule they have played.

Congrove has UNL 48th and Southern Cal 47th. Massey has UNL 50th and Southern Cal 27th. I am no sur why they are ranked that high but they are unless I am reading it wrong.

John Papenhagen

USC is kind of an enigma. They beat LSU and Wisconsin, two pretty good teams, plus Utah State.

They lost close games to Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State and Maryland.

They won’t be a pushover, no matter where the game is played. I currently have them in the ‘loss’ column, but other than Ohio State every game could come down to which team plays up to its potential.
