Smallest crowd since 2000, announced size was 27,188. How much of that was the early date/cool weather and how much was other factors?
I think the game answered some questions about the offense but probably raised questions about the defense, especially solving last year’s inability to stop the run.
Possibly, but how many fans actually went to OKC or Houston? 5000? Those arenas don’t seat 30,000.
I hate to say it, but the football team has just been meh so far under Rhule, good enough for the lesser bowl games the last two years but not a serious playoff contender. Yeah, they’ve gone to 2 straight bowl games, which hasn’t been an every-year thing since Solich was fired.
And this past year the basketball team was far more interesting to watch than the football team.
I don’t disagree. Also the Top 10 a softball team had a big home series against UCLA and our Baseball team is #24 along with success in wrestling bowling gymnastics. Nebraska sports in general are really in the rise. Lots to focus on other than just football.
Apathy is the perfect word. I don’t care as much as I used to, and I am somebody who used to arrange his entire fall around Husker football.
I will say the fortune of the other men’s programs have improved dramatically in the last 3 years. Basketball had an amazing season and baseball is 22-6 and 8-1 in the big ten after sweeping Indiana today, (they also won the conference the past 2 years).
We may not be considered a “football school” for much longer…
I. think that the success of Nebrasketball this year pulled a lot of attention away from the football team. And IMO, that’s not a bad thing. The year round scrutiny and hype about the team has never been healthy, and in the days of social media it has become kinda toxic. Giving the team and coaches some space to operate without our constant overwatch isn’t a bad thing.
I don’t think it is all apathy but I think apathy is involved. I know I am like what Mr. Gaule described. Years ago I wouldn’t necessarily let Husker football control my life but I tried to watch as many games as I could and keep up with what was going on. Today I find myself a lot of times not really caring. As a matter of fact I think last fall I watched maybe three or four games.
