I am not a fan of any kind of opinion rankings in any sport. It is impossible to rank college football stadiums. To say there are 15 venues better then Lincoln to me is ridiculous. I would guess what goes into these rankings is the state of the team. If the Huskers were the Huskers of the nineties I think Lincoln would very possibly would be in the top five.

Journalists have the advantage that they’ve probably been in a lot more stadiums than most of us. In my case, the number is fairly small: home games at Northwestern, Nebraska, Indiana and Kansas State, plus the Northwestern-USC Rose Bowl. I’ve been to a soccer match at Soldier Field (back when Pele was playing in whatever USA soccer league that was.)
My father-in-law went to most away Nebraska games, including bowl games, for close to 30 years. He always ranked West Point as one of his favorite stadiums, but he was in the Army in WW2. He consider Missouri and Colorado equally bad places to see games, because of poor fan attitudes.
By contrast, I’ve been to MLB games at Wrigley Field and the original Yankee Stadium, plus games at several other stadiums that no longer exist–Atlanta, Cincinnati and NYC (Shea). But my favorite place to watch a baseball game remains Petrakis Park in Dubuque IA, which had a single-A minor league team when I was a teenager. Got to see a lot of young players who went on to better things, including Tommy John–before the eponymous surgery. You were so close to the field that you could have conversations with the players and umps.
“He always ranked West Point as one of his favorite stadium”
Smart man with good taste. It’s the best place in the world.
