Dowdell entering transfer portal

Nebraska’s leading rusher in 2024, Dante Dowdell, is planning to enter the transfer portal.

Never have athletes been less connected to the school for who they are currently playing.

The Transfer Portal makes free-agency in the NFL, NBA and MLB look like kindergarten. I can easily understand why some recent retiring/fired coaches decided it was time to move on from coaching. Having athletes be employees might in effect lead to tighter rules on transfers, but that’s a real Pandora’s box with many issues nobody really understands the long-term implications of yet. (And when they do, it might be too late to fix them.)

An ESPN article had an interesting quote from Coach Prime, who thought it was quite likely that his son Shedeur has never set foot in a classroom at CU, he takes courses online:

By contrast, I had multiple classes at Northwestern with athletes in them, and when I was in grad school at UNL and teaching intro comp-sci courses, I had several football players and other athletes as students. I had George Andrews as both a student in a course I taught and a fellow student in a course I took.

Even more so with the roster limit of 105 and the affect it has on walk one

Yup, the Rudy story could no longer happen.

I feel sorry for the walk-ons who will get cut from next year rosters and the HS players who will have no where to walk on.

I sort of hope a bunch of them get together and sue the NCAA over the roster limit.
