Colorado wins season opener

Looks like Colorado will be an E-ticket ride again this year, at least in the first part of the season.

The offense might be improved over 2023 and their offensive stars (notably but not exclusively Sanders and Hunter) keep making highlight-reel plays. North Dakota State has a good D1-FCS defense but isn’t a Power 5 (er, 4) school, so it isn’t clear how well CU will hold up over the course of the season, but I don’t think their conference schedule in the Big 12 is quite as top-heavy as their Pac-12 schedule was last year, so I think they’ll be enough better to get to a bowl game. (But Nebraska looks primed, at least on paper, for a bowl game season, too.)

The defense doesn’t look much better than a year ago.

This all adds up to an interesting game in Lincoln next week. Nebraska fell apart late in Boulder, I don’t know that CU can count on them doing that again this year.

I’d like to think we can wear them down next week. They do have enough playmakers to score quickly though. Also would love to see Big Red give Warren Sapp one more beat down. I have a long memory… on some things anyway. Reckon any current Huskers have even heard about that famous Orange Bowl?

The current players probably have only a dim memory of the Pelini era, that Orange Bowl story is the kind of tale their grandfathers told them.

Minnesota lost a close game to North Carolina when a last-second field goal went wide right. Earlier their kicker doinked one off the right upright. The Gophers aren’t on UNL’s schedule this year. NC’s starting QB went down in the 3rd quarter with a hip injury.

Illinois shut out Illinois State 45-0 last night. The Illini will come to Lincoln on September 20th for a Friday night game.

NC’s QB is out for the season with a broken leg.
