Don’t know if the NCAA is gonna do it, but the college coaches voted unanimously in favor of allowing a redshirt year for players who appear in up to 9 regular season games.
2 years at a junior college, 5 years plus a medical redshirt could mean players being in their 8th year of post-HS football. Throw in a two year mission and they could be pushing 30!

Add a year for Olympic redshirts for Olympic sports. 8 years is not uncommon in wrestling (esp with the Covid year).
